WICOMICO COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT AWARDED COVID COMMUNITY CHAMPION

BY THE WICOMICO COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

(October 27, 2021, Salisbury, MD) Thank you, Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce for recognizing the Wicomico County Health Department (WiCHD) and the important role they played in the fight against COVID-19.  Today, WiCHD received a plaque in recognition of the hard work displayed over the last 19 months.

The WiCHD championed public health and rose to meet the community’s needs. With local partners, we held the first mass COVID-19 testing on the Eastern Shore, testing over 2,000 people within 2 days. The Call Center handled 35,020 calls since March 2020 and continues to do so today. WiCHD staff worked with Maryland State Police and the State to investigate and respond to 432 complaints as well as 175 COVID-related food complaints to enforce the Governor’s Executive Orders and mitigate unsafe practices. WiCHD started providing COVID-19 vaccinations in December 2020 and still provide initial doses as well as boosters to this day.  From testing and contact tracing to executive order enforcement and vaccinations, the health department steadily coordinated and led COVID efforts throughout the county. Although we’re not out of the pandemic yet, WiCHD will continue to aid its community.

To make an appointment for vaccine/boosters visit www.wicomicohealth.org or call 410-341-4600. Local updates are posted on www.wicomicohealth.org  and our social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram (WicomicoHealth) or Twitter (@WicomicoHealth).
