NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK AND VACCINATION CLINIC UPDATES

(April 9, 2021, Salisbury, MD) This week was National Public Health Week which celebrates public health contributions and highlights different health topics that are key to improving the health of our nation.

What Does Public Health Do?

Public health promotes and protects the health of people and communities where they live, work, and play. Public health activities include supporting those doing the work within their communities and recognizing community members as experts and leaders; applying a racial equity lens to all decisions about policies and programs; encouraging local officials to support healthy community design that includes parks, sidewalks and bike lanes – and to fund programs to prevent poor living conditions; and building strong communities to make them more resilient. The COVID-19 pandemic has also demonstrated the importance of public health in the nation’s efforts to protect its citizens and defeat COVID-19.

Vaccination Clinic Updates

Since the week of December 21st, the Wicomico County Health Department (WiCHD) has held sixty-six vaccination clinics for those individuals listed in Phase 1A/B/C and Phase 2A/B/C. Throughout these clinics, WiCHD administered the first doses and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to 18,748 people. Of those vaccinations, 1,722 were administered this week.

Vaccination efforts continue to prioritize the individuals in Phase 2A/B/C.  Phase 3 can now register.  Please email [email protected]  and include your age or what phase you fall in and how you qualify for that phase.  The Health Department will email you a link to make an appointment.  The Wicomico County Health Dept vaccination clinics are held at the Center at Salisbury mall between Home Goods and Burlington (the Old Tuesday Morning Location).

Please remember the Wicomico County Health Dept. is NOT running the Maryland Dept. of Health (MDH) Mass Vaccination Clinic at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center if you have questions or want to register please call 1-855-634-6829 or visit https://covidlink.maryland.gov/content/vaccine/
