COVID-19 CASES ARE ON THE RISE

(July 30, 2021 Salisbury, MD) The United States is once again seeing a rise in Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.  As of July 22nd 35% of U.S counties are experiencing high levels of community transmission.  These worrisome trends are due, in part, to the rapid spread of the highly transmissible B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant. 83% of new cases in the U.S are estimated to be the Delta variant.  Wicomico County is also seeing a rise in cases and hospitalizations.  In the last 2 weeks Wicomico County’s Covid-19 cases have tripled.  Getting vaccinated prevents severe illness, hospitalization, and death; it also helps reduce the spread of the virus in communities.  Unvaccinated individuals should get vaccinated and continue masking until they are fully vaccinated. With the Delta variant, this is more urgent than ever. The highest spread of cases and severe outcomes is happening in places with low vaccination rates.  Wicomico County has 42% of residents 18 years old and older fully vaccinated.
Wicomico County Health Department is encouraging residents to get vaccinated including youth 12-17yr olds especially before school is back in session.  Wicomico County Health Department will be holding vaccine clinics at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center as well as in the community.  Click the link below to make an appointment or call 410-341-4600.
