Medical Assistance Transportation

Medical Assistance Transportation

The Wicomico County Health Department oversees the Maryland Medical Assistance Transportation Program to provide complimentary, non-emergency transportation to qualified Medical Assistance Recipients.

Medical Assistance Transportation is for Wicomico County residents with active Medicaid who have no other means of  transportation available to get to their medical appointments. This is a shared ride program – if you qualify for the service, you will be riding with other people. Be aware that all customers will be subject to a screening process to determine eligibility for services. Call (410) 548-5142 with any questions and to see if you qualify.

Scheduling Your Ride

All service must be requested by 12 noon at least two business days before the ride is needed, but can be scheduled up to two weeks in advance. Emergency transportation  services are not covered  under this program. If you have an emergency, call 911.

When calling to schedule your ride, you must have the following information available:

  • The medical facility name, address, and phone number to which you are going.
  • How long your visit/procedure is expected to take.
  • Any assistive devices you may have: wheelchair, crutches, walker, oxygen tank.
  • Whether it is medically necessary for you to be accompanied by an adult.
*There are several restrictions in place according to the destination of your appointment. Visit our Service Availability page for more information on ride restrictions.

Getting Your Pick Up Time

City Cab is currently contracted to provide the curb-to-curb service. So that you are ready when the transportation arrives, you must call them between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. the day before your scheduled ride to get your estimated pick up time.

If you live in a rural area and you do not confirm, you will not be picked up. Locations include, but are not limited to: Hebron, Mardela Springs, Parsonsburg, Tyaskin, Willards
