FUNDING OPPORTUNITY:

 YOUTH SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS

(February 8, 2023, Salisbury, MD) The Wicomico County Health Department’s Tobacco Program has received funding from Maryland Department of Health’s Tobacco, Diabetes and Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Initiative.  This is to provide funding to Wicomico County organizations to develop tobacco/vape social media campaigns created by youth to counteract the attractiveness of these products to their peers. Youth groups, faith-based organization, civic groups, etc.  are encouraged to apply.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nicotine and tobacco companies have strategically used digital and social media platforms to reach younger generations, including through their favorite apps and video games.  Social media platforms allow users to interact with the marketing features, which increases exposure and influence among children, adolescents, youth groups and faith-based organizations.

Grant proposal packages with detailed proposal specifications may be obtained at our website www.wicomicohealth.org (click on OPEN BIDS on main page) or at the Wicomico County Health Department, Seth H. Hurdle Building, 108 East Main Street, Room 210, Salisbury, MD 21801.

Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to attend a pre-proposal meeting to address questions about the grant proposal submission process. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 3:00 p.m at Wicomico County Health Department: Adkins Building, Second Floor Administration Conference Room (801 N. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury, MD).  Attendance is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory.

Proposal packages must be received no later than Monday, February 20, 2023 at 4:00 p.m., EST. Groups selected will be awarded up to $6,000 in funding.  Questions can be directed to Carol Fenner at (443)614-8869 or [email protected].
