FUNDING OPPORTUNITY:

 WICOMICO COUNTY ORGANIZATIONS

(January 8, 2023, Salisbury, MD) The Wicomico County Health Department’s Tobacco Program has received funding from Maryland Department of Health’s Tobacco, Diabetes and Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Initiative.  This is to provide funding to Wicomico County organizations interested in developing and conducting programs to African-American youth & adults that reduce the use of tobacco/products among youth, educate on secondhand smoke/vape, tobacco-free home norms and/or other outdoor restrictions Any Wicomico County community organizations, including civic organizations, youth groups, counseling centers, human service organizations, foster care agencies, faith-based organizations, non-profit agencies, etc. are encouraged to apply.

Smoking/tobacco use increases the risk for developing diabetes, and those who have diabetes and smoke are more likely to have difficulty with managing their condition. According to the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, persons with diabetes who smoke are more likely to have serious health problems from diabetes, including heart disease and kidney disease.
