Fruitland Boil Water Advisory

Fruitland, MD (February 1, 2018) – The City of Fruitland has been placed under a boiled water advisory due to a water main break that occurred on January 31, 2018.  The advisory states, “water that will be used for drinking, food preparation, making ice…be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute.”  The advisory has been issued since the water was exposed to unknown contaminants while the system was not under pressure.  The water has been sampled and submitted to a laboratory to confirm the water is potable.  Food Service Facilities that are on Fruitland City water and that prepare food have been asked to close until the water testing is completed and results are within state parameters.  All Food Service Facilities in Maryland are governed by COMAR 10.15.03 which requires the facilities to have potable hot and cold running water in order to operate.  Facilities that are not able to meet these criteria must voluntarily close.  Wicomico County Health Department has been working closely with Food Service Facilities during this time.  The Public Health and safety of our residents is the primary concern for the Health Department.

For more information on these regulations please contact Wicomico County Health Department’s Environmental Health Department 410-546-4446.
