Tobacco Use Prevention & Cessation Program

Smoking Cessation Support Group

Participants receive up to 10 weeks of education and group support sessions, quit resources such as self help literature and carbon monoxide monitoring, and quit aid medications (patches, Zyban, or Chantix). All of these services are FREE OF CHARGE to the employer and participants.

This includes:

• Introductory class (~ ½ hour): Participants receive introduction to group, Medical Clearance Forms, information about quit aids and voucher system, and fill out individual profiles and consent forms.
~7 educational sessions: Semi-structured sessions focused on a theme each week (making a plan to quit, triggers, withdrawal symptoms, living as a non-smoker, nutrition and physical activity, stress management). Each session is one hour with a set day, time, and location.
2 follow up support sessions: Facilitator will be available to meet with participants in a drop-in session

Needed from employer/ worksite:

• Get the backing of management and arrange with supervisors to allow participants devote 1 hour/ week to smoking cessation group.
Arrange a set day/time/location.
Promote the class to all employees and sign up participants. Need approximately 15 interested people to offer a group. Make sure to get their name, contact information, and permission to contact them through their supervisor.
